I was feeling very sick so although I had not missed a period I did a test and got a positive result, I had a scan but there was nothing to see. A week later I did another 2 tests and they were negative. I've not had any bleeding , my doctor says I am no longer pregnant but I don't understand what has happened.

I am so sorry for your loss. What you had sounds like a chemical pg at least that is what my Dr. called it. I don't know much about it but if you haven't had bleeding I am not 100% sure that is what happened. My advice would be to call your Dr. and ask them for answers.

Thank you Lisa, I will go and see my gp next week. But I am feeling upset and confused, as I didn't understand what had happened. I've read up on chemical pregnancy now so understand a little better. It was not planned and was a big shock to me but I love my partner very much and was very happy to be pregnant. The rollercoaster of emotions has been hard, and now I feel very sad. Just being able to talk about it here is a big help x

Believe me we all understand how you feel whether our pgs were planned or not. My advice is take some time for yourself and relax. Keep us posted on how you are doing. (((HUGS)))

I can't see my doctor for two more days. I've been waiting for these damn holidays to be over, and now waiting more. I don't understand what has happened, or what is happening now, I've had no bleeding yet.

Almost all of us here have been through those terrible scans-- my heart goes out to you! If you did have a chemical pregnancy, I'm not sure how long it would take to start bleeding. Hopefully others on here will share their experiences with those as they are unfortunately common.

With my chemical I test a very faint + went to the Dr. for levels and got up the next morning with af. The Dr. called later that day to say my numbers barely showed up but I did have a succesful pg the next cycle.

Thank you all for your support. I got AF this morning with bad cramps. I feel quite tearful. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow. Everything I've read about chemical pregnancy is that its a faint reading but my 1st test was very strong. At least this happening has made me realise that I do want to have a child and its brought me and my partner closer.

My doctor told me it was a BO. As I am bleeding now I don't have to go for the 2nd scan, which I am grateful for. I have always had a deep fear of birth and pregnancy, but now that I have been through this I have faced my fear and realised that I would love to have a baby with the man I love. Now we can plan for it and do it together. I am so glad I found this board as you have all been huge support to me. I will keep you posted on how we get on xx

I hope the physical part of this goes smoothly for you-- I expect it should because you were early on. It can be hard to know what happened when a pregnancy ends very early on. I don't think it really matters to know for sure. Sadly, early pregnancy loss and chemical pregnancy are common, yet most women do go on to have successful pregnancies after them. So, I wouldn't be anything but hopeful at this point that you can go on to have a successful pregnancy. When you are ready to try again, there are definitely things you can do to increase the odds of egg and sperm meeting at the right time, which can help you feel some control in something that is ultimately out of our control-- the egg and sperm actually coming together to form a baby.
Best of luck to you!

Maz- I am so sorry for your loss! I have had both a BO and a chem pg and, emotionally, regardless of when you lose the baby it is very hard. I think we start getting excited and bonding to our idea of what and who the baby will be from the moment we get that + test (if not sooner, if we've been TTCing or thinking about having a baby for a while). As the other women said, you have come to a great site for support and friendship. We have all been were you are and understand your pain. Unfortunately, pregnancy losses are very common (about 20-30% of all pregnancies) so it's something that many women experience. But, as KC said, the good news is that they are usually random events and most women go on to have healthy pregnancies afterwards. As many women on this site can attest to.
For now, take care of yourself. The fact that AF came on her own is great news in some ways. It means your body is taking care of itself. YOur hormones levels are back to normal. And I don't see any reason why you would need to wait to start trying again when you feel ready.
Hugs, Marisa
