Ouch!!
I have been having issues with yeast infections while bfing Nate. It seems like in the past 5 months he has had about 10-15 oral yeast infections. My boobs are so sore because of them.
Nate has the fluconozol drops and I put athletes foot stuff on my nipples but and things clear up for a few weeks and it's back to having a yeast infection.
Has this happened to anyone else? The doctors don't seem to be to worried about it but it's painful.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Rebecca

Rebecca, I wish I had some idea to help. It sounds very painful. I'm impressed you are able to stick with it. I don't know that I could. Does anything help like cold compresses or ibuprophen? Truly, I'm at a loss. Hmmm, what about putting plain yogurt on your breasts? That might help you fight the infection off? Just throwing things out there. Hang in there! (((HUGS))) Michelle

I asked the good old encyclopedia of Nan (she is also a nurse) about this and here are her solutions. Anything that can be sterilized should be after every time it goes in Nathans mouth (she said the other name they used to use for oral yeast infections is thrush) even if he doesn't have any infection and she said youshould eat more yogurt it will give both you and Nathan some defence. She really stressed sterilizing though. Good luck.

Yogurt is a great cure for thrush. Plain yogurt also works when BB has a yeast infection on the bums. They hate it but it sure fixes them up right away. Lisa, your nan is awesome! Eryn

I agree Eryn! I don't think I would have made it though Logan being a baby if it wasn't for her. I still talk to her at least every second day (today I got the lecture about doing kegal excersizes). Hopefully her yeast infection advice helps but she always says sterilisation will help with so many things when you have a bb. She means it when she says sterilize anything that can be and Logan didn't get thrush or really any illnesses his first year (after that he was in a dayhome).
Rebecca, I hope things are getting better for you.

Thanks Ladies, We are now both on Fluconozol and nystatin cream for my boobs and his little butt. I sterilize like crazy and we are still at a loss on why this keeps happening. There is something not right but what? We are working on keeping the Thrush away. Luckily this last one seems less severe. I felt it in my boobs before any visible sign showed in his mouth. He's going for his 6 month check on the 13th and we will be talking to the ped. more. Thanks for the advise! Rebecca

Hi Rebecca, Ask abut acidopholus for both you & the baby. I think there is a kind you can put on their tongues. Some of my friends babies have had thrush. Good luck at the doctor. I hope they can solve it. Lauren

I was going to mention Nystatin as well. Travis and I had this trouble but it's important to treat both mom and baby at the same time or you will just keep passing it back and forth! I hope you get some relief soon!

Hi Rebecca and everyone!
Haven't been on this site for a looooong time - too busy chasing Naomi all over creation! I just saw this post tho and wanted to say - make sure you are also sterilizing your bras, towels and anything else that touches your breasts each and every day. The yeast can get in the clothing and if you put the bra back on, it can reinfect your nipples. Best thing is to put the bras etc. outside in the bright, hot sun to dry after you've washed them as yeast HATES sunlight!
Good luck and I hope this clears up for you both very, very soon!

FF,
I have been wondering about you and little Naomi. I'm sure she is getting big now. Is she finally sleeping. If so what was your trick. Nate sleeps but not when I can.
Thanks for the info about the bra. I had not thought about that especially since I had been using nursing pads as well and didn't think about the bra. Since he is getting older there have been fewer outbreaks of the yeast.
Thanks to all the ladies for your suggestions.
Rebecca
