Hi Ladies-
On several posts I have talked about my use of acupuncture after my BO and during my pregnancy with Owen. I thought that I would pass along some information in case people are interested in finding a practioner in their area.
Studies have shown that acupuncture can work to boost fertility in some women. For me, I was diagnosed with gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) after my BO - basically, some cells from the baby invaded my uterus and hung on. There were too few to see on ultrasound but too many that my body still thought I was pg (my HCG levels never went below 15 even after my D&C).
My PCP had recommended acupuncture as a way to relax and pamper myself after the loss, 4 months later, with still no AF and a diagnosis of GTD, I decided to try it before undergoing chemotherapeutic drugs (I had had one round and it didn't work so I was skeptical to have another round of the drugs). Anyway, within 2 sessions my HCG levels dropped to normal and I got AF! I used acupuncture for the next several months to regulate my cycle and we got BFP the first cycle we started trying. I continued acupuncture throughout my pg and even now.
Obviously, acupuncture doesn't work for everyone but if you are feeling hopeless and helpless like I was, it may be something that you are interested in. Not all insurance companies pay for it (mine doesn't) but my practioner operates on a sliding scale so I pay what I can for each session. If nothing else, it really is relaxing. My DH even goes now and he loves it too.
So, if you are interested in finding a local practioner in the US...
National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. www.nccaom.org/find/index.html
In Canada: www.acufinder.com/Acupuncture/Canada
I will do a google search to see if I can find resources for our other international members too. If you have any links, please let me know so I can add them too.
Take care of yourselves,
Marisa
