I was diagnosed witha bo and a d&e on Friday. The nurse told me that anytime there was a loss it had to be put down as a d&e. What is the difference in a d&c and a d&e? Is there a difference in the actual procedure or just the "title". Everything I've found on the web about d&e talks about abortion and later term - it breaks my heart to read that and I can't even get through it.

I think that d&c they scrape and the the d&e they suck it out. I am not positice and I am sure that if you google it they could answer it in better terms.
I know that we have people that have had one or the other.

I think Kallie is right. And you are right about that A word. I yelled at my doctor when I saw what she had written. My new Dr. must of heard about the commotion I made, cause he automatically used the m/c word. Mamabear

Okay, so what's the difference between sucking and scraping? I mean at what point do they decide to do what? I tried to google - still coming up with the same stuff.

I think that the dr decides. I think each dr has a preference.

Quite honestly, until I found this site I never heard of a D&E. With my 2nd BO they wanted to do a D&C but I miscarried before the date it was scheduled. Also, I know women who have gyno problems (not losses/pregnancy issues) have D&Cs - like women w/endometreosis. Sorry I can't be of more help. I don't like the A term either - but that's the medical term unfortunately - I think they call it Spontaneous A - so that means it happened on its own - we had nothing to do with it.

Katherine you are correct they do call m/c before 12 wks spontaneous abortions and I wish they would call them miscarriages. This is not anything we asked for.
