Hi everyone,
I had my follow-up app today from last Tuesday's d & c. In one of my previous posts, I mentioned how my doctor had said she wasn't sure if I had a b/o and I was puzzled about that. Plus my levels were really high (82,000) and I was confused since it seems like b/o typically have much lower numbers.
Today I was informed by my doctor that I didn't have a b/o and that what we experienced was a complete hydatiform mole. Apparently that means that the sperm fertilized an egg that lacked any genetic material. I will have to test my levels every week for a month and then every month for 6 months to a year to make sure that the cells didn't spread. Apparently, these cells can form a type of cancer that can spread.
I was shocked and confused but I didn't really lose it until she said they typically want you to wait to TTC for a year AFTER the levels remain constant at 0. I had my first blood test today and get results tomorrow. If they have increased, I will have to see a specialist and probably have a course of chemo. There are pretty positive numbers with regards to knocking it out quickly and being able to conceive again. There are also pretty positive statistics with regards to early detection (I was around 8 weeks) and not having to do anything past the blood work. I can't do anything but wait for every blood tests' results.
I am pretty upset but just typing about it makes me feel slightly better. My DH is upset too but he's handling it much better than I.
I know I didn't have a b/o but if it's ok with the moderators, I would like to stay a member since I feel confortable with you after only a week.
I don't normally ask for prayers but if you could throw a few my way, I would sincerely appreciate it.
Thanks so much,
~Thurese
