Hi everyone!! I'm Shauna, and I'm so glad to have found this board based only on BO. I have a 2 year old little boy and since having him in 03' have had 2 BO the first 4/04 and 2nd 1/05. The 2nd time I had bloodwork done but I don't have a clue what all tests were performed, everything came back normal. Well, I am now 4.5 wks pregnant again and scared to death!!I don't even acknowledge myself as being pregnant yet b/c I have this feeling it's just not going to work out. So that's what I'm here for is to talk with others who might have some positive input, has anyone had 2 consecutive BO and gone on to have a h&h pregnancy? Thanks and best wishes to everyone Shauna

I know there is a moderator here that had one, a child, and then another loss (I believe both were blighted ovums) but I'm not sure about anyone having two consecutive losses. I do know that feeling of being sure something is wrong and not acknowledging the pregnancy. IMO it is a way of trying to protect yourself from that emotional pain again, and it doesn't necessarily mean you will have that same outcome...I had that feeling and I completely didn't even allow myself to bond with the idea of having a baby in me until they heard my son's heartbeat and even then I was a bit distant because of some other prenatal problems. For me, I couldn't bear the idea of dealing with that pain again.
I'm so sorry you are having to go throught the fear of this. I had one loss and not two, but I do know how scary it is to have to wait and see...it takes just way too long to get to a point where you know for sure. I hope someone here can give you the inspiration you are needing.

Hi there,
I hope I can give you some encouragement! I have had two miscarriages, a blighted ovum, then a healthy child, then 2nd m/c. They caught the 2nd one at almost 12 weeks, and the results were inconclusive about whether or not it was a b/o at that stage. I went on to get pregnant (with the help of a reproductive endocrinologist) and am now 21 weeks along. I posted to another person below about some of the details that got me here...but I do understand the fear and anxiety that becoming pregnant after a b/o or m/c can cause. Please try and stay positive. I would call my Dr. ASAP incase you are in need of progesterone supplementation (I needed it to maintain both my successful pregnancies) and/or to get your HCG tested. That always gives you encouragement in the beginning, when those #s are doubling.
Good luck and HUGS, I am so sorry for your losses too.

Thanks for the replies Kris and Lin, Lin that is exactly what it is, I just don't understand how someone can have a h&h pregnancy and go on to have m/c's. So are you pregnant now or did you already have your son? I will def. be hesitant to bond also. Kris is progesterone supplementation something that you have to get from your doctor or is it a OTC drug? I do plan on calling my doctor on Mon. and getting some HCG bloodwork done and possibly testing my progesterone also. How is your pregnancy now going? Good luck!! Shauna

Shauna,
Progesterone is a supplement. I think you can get it OTC but I strongly suggest you ask your Dr. to test you first. If you don't need it then I wouldn't advise taking it. Your Dr. will give you the proper dosage if needed, it is a prescription that comes in either oral or vaginal form. I want to answer your question about having a healthy child and then going on to have two m/c. For me, the fact that I made it through the pregnancy and delivery with my son without grave consequences was sheer luck or a miracle. I have a blood clotting genetic mutation, one that can cause m/c and/or fetal or maternal death if untreated during pregnancy. I found out about it through my pregnancy loss testing. I am not tellling you this to scare you, but for me it was lifesaving information and explained my two m/c. I needed an explanation prior to TTC this time around or I don't think I would've been ready to become pregnant again, not knowing the odds.
My pregnancy is going good, had a few scares, at 10 weeks I had some bleeding and at 15 they found my cervix was .5 cm dilated. Each time I was "sure" that my pregnancy was over and was quite depressed. Every day that goes by I get a bit more positive. I am high risk so I am seeing a perinatologist, and an OB and have an u/s every few weeks so I live at the Dr.'s office, so I guess I get lots of reassurance that way. ;0) Anyway good luck I will keep you in my prayers hun.

Kris I'm so happy for you that this pregnancy is "so far so good", how are your doctors? It sounds like they take good care of you. Well, since posting this morning I have started having brownish-pink dishcharge...exactly how the other 2 started and it wasalso around this time. I had this feeling anyway about this pregnancy, actually I don't even feel pregnant. I'm kind of mad at myself for not getting a preconception check up like my doctor suggested but I couldn't help but think then what they could do for me, he never mentioned anything. I had tests done after the 2nd BO and everything came back normal, so what else could it be? I'm going to call first thing in the morning and see what to do next, maybe I am just jumping to conclusions. Best Wishes, Shauna

{{{{Shauna}}}}} I hope you can get some answers soon. I had the one loss and then went on to have two successful children (son, 3 1/2 and a daughter who turned 2 today). For me the hardest was not knowing and wanting to protect myself from the pain. There's a few gals in here like Kris that have had multiple losses and have had a diagnosis that went on to help them conceive and stay pregnant. Lauren is another who comes to mind. I hope everything is ok, if the worst happens I hope you can look at them and know that there is hope. Lauren's story is on the story board here: blightedovum.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&thread=1115576140 Please keep us posted, you will be in my prayers.

Awe hun, you can't beat yourself up over "what if's". I know it is easy to but you have every chance of having a normal pregnancy next time around, regardless of any testing your Dr. may have recommended. Definitely today get an HCG and progesterone. Once that is done you will know where you stand.
My Dr.'s are excellent. I had a reproductive endocrinologist to get pregnant (aka infertility Dr.) who monitored me for HCG and progesterone from weeks 3-8, and did 3 u/s one at 5, 6 and 7 weeks. At 8 weeks I got turned over to my OB. I am also high risk due to the blood thinners and cervix issues so I see a perinatologist. My OB would've certainly been more careful with me this pregnancy because I had m/c'ed at 11 weeks last time (didn't have an u/s until 11 weeks, they just assumed I would be "ok" because I had my son prior to that pregnancy) but I took it upon myself to seek pregnancy loss testing. I urge anyone who has had two m/c to do it. My genetic tests on the baby all came back normal after my last loss, so it was never a genetic thing. It all came down to me. They even tested DH for all sorts of stuff. ;0)
HUGS sweetie and God bless, keep us posted.

Shauna
I too have had a b/o and am now pg. As far as the spotting. I did the same type of spotting w/ this pregnancy as I did w/ the b/o. I too had low progesterone. I would still go in and be checked. If your progesterone is low and you catch it may help and if it is low and you do m/c maybe they can put you on progesterone before you get pg. I am over 17 wks and there are still days that I am totally freaked out. I have spotted 5 times. I saw the baby on the u/s at 10 wks and then have heard the heartbeat but it still is scary and hard to let yourself get really attached.
Good luck and please keep us posted. ((((((((hugs))))))))

Hey girls I am feeling so much better today I went to my OB doctor and he wrote me a prescription to get an HCG and progesterone, actually he went ahead and wrote me a prescription for prometrium I believe it's called, I take it orally 3 times a day. My only concern is do you think it's to late? I will be 5w6 days tomorrow. Well, if that is the problem. I have a appoint. next Tue. and get another HCG this Wed. Another thing is this medication makes me feel dizzy and kind of out of it, for those who have taken it is this normal? It say it on the bottle and it also says do not take if pregnant. Weird... Anyway I will keep you ladies updated and please be praying for me. Best Wishes, Shauna

And also I only have a very scant amt. of light pink d/c sometimes but most of the time it looks normal in color. But I really don't feel pregnancy. It's just so hard to tell. I just hope this med works if low progesterone is the problem Shauna

Hi Shauna,
I have been on oral progesterone twice and vaginal once. All were prometrium, but with this pregnancy I was told by my infertility Dr. to insert it vaginally. I was on 400 mg. vaginally and 200 orally with my other two pregnancies. I started it at 4.5 weeks with my b/o and 5.5 weeks with my son. If progesterone is the cause of your problems, then it will help maintain the pregnancy. If it is not, unfortunately it won't. It is as safe as any drug for pregnant women.
I was very dizzy, tired and nauseous for weeks on the medication. It is all normal. Be sure to use care while driving at first.
Big HUGS hun you are in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know your #s!
Kris

Thanks for all of the support ladies, it really means a lot to me. I did call the doc. today and the nurse told me the progesterone would not be in until Thurs. and the HCG was low b/c it's still so early. I'll get another tomorrow and find out what's going on Thurs. for sure. Kris, did you still go on to miscarry even having the prometrium when they started you at 5.5 wks.? Did it start off with light pink CM? Is that a sign of low progesterone? I know that if this pr. does not work out at least we will be able to find the problem and I know we'll have a healthy pr. next time. Thanks again everyone for the support and I wish you all the best. Best Wishes, Shauna

I want to answer your question in its entirety, so I copied it LOL. With my son, I started the progesterone at 5.5 weeks. It did start off with light pink CM. I don't know if it is a sign of low progesterone, it can also be a sign of implantation. I went on to carry to term and my dear son is 3 1/2. ;0)
This time I started progesterone while TTC so I was on it from weeks 2-12. If this is a viable PG (and I am praying it is for you!) then the progesterone can't hurt, and may help hun.
Big HUGS let us know your #s!

Kris Thanks for answering. So why did they start you on it earlier for your 2nd pr.? At least I have some hope that I didn't start it to late. I'm starting to feel better about this but will no nothing until tomorrow. I felt a gush today at clinicals and thought for I had started bleeding but it wasen't...not even pink just normal looking CM. So I'm trying not to get my hopes up, when you had your BO's did the spotting/discharge ever stop? With mine it didn'tl, I never started bleeding either so that's why I had the 2 D&C's. One of my classmates has been coming by and picking me up to go to school, that med is just awful at making me drowsy! Anyway wish me lots of luck:) Shauna

Shauna,
I started progesterone with Justin because they were monitoring it and noticed a drop. It was done as a pregnancy saving measure. My Dr.'s were not optimistic. I think it went from normal down to like 13 at 5 weeks which is low. However, for me, I need progesterone to maintain a pregnancy (as I have found out through my experience with my son as well as this current PG) I never spotted with either of my b/o's. My spotting stopped as soon as I started the progesterone with Justin. I spotted at 10 weeks with this pregnancy regardless of the progesterone but I am on blood thinners, which causes bleeding.
I am praying for you hun and hoping for the best. We all know the waiting is so very hard. Plus progesterone does such awful things to your mind and body. No one "wants" to take it. But it did most likely save my pregnancies.
Big HUGS
Kris

I spotted on the progesterone too. I am now 17w 5d and I still check the toilet paper when I wipe. And there were times I was sure that I was bleeding and it was cm.
My level they were checking because of my bo m/c last year and it went from 20.5 to 11. And I started arround 5 1/2 wks.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Oh I forgot to answer the 2nd part LOL about starting it at 2 weeks this time around. I was under the care of a infertility Dr. and they decided it was best to start the meds in the 2nd 1/2 of my cycle. I got PG the first month I tried. ;0)

Well good news everyone....my #'s not only doubled but just about tripled. Yipeee.......I'm so excited right now but at the same time not trying to get my hopes up. Has anyone's #'s doubled like they should but yet still be diagnosed with a BO? I asked my doc. that and he said that usually dosen't happen but you can never say never. Also, my progesterone was not low but bordeline so he said absolutely do not stop taking the prometrium. Since day 2 of taking it everything has been back to normal so that very well could have been the problem. I already had a appoint. for July 6th, I told him I was really nervous about this pr. so he told me to come in with a full bladder for an U/S to just ease my mind. Hopefully everything will be fine. Good luck & best wishes to everyone, thanks for all the support. Shauna Best wishes to everyone
