Dear Jamie, First of all, do not feel stupid. This is very confusing and doctors do not explain things well about a blighted ovum. It is my understanding that by 6.5 weeks they should at least see a sac. If they have done 3 ultrasounds and there is no sac, then probably you will either miscarry or need a d&c. I had my bo at 7 1/2 weeks, and the ultrasound showed a sac, but no embryo. I had a d&c, and was told I could start trying again after one period. You may want to have your appt. with your doctor and talk about all of this before going ahead with the d&c?
I am very sorry that you are having to go through this, but please feel free to ask any questions here. The women on this site have all been through similar experiences, and have a lot of information. Good luck. Lauren

I've never heard of them not seeing the sac at 6 weeks...I know that sometimes there can be a baby there and at 6 they might not see it. By 8 definately they should see the baby...but I don't remember people addressing not finding the sac (I will pay more attention after this though). The falling numbers are probably an indicator that it is, unfortunately, how it appears. I'm so sorry you are going through this For me, I began to cramp and bleed at 11w3d which is when they did a transvaginal ultrasound. I had a D and C and was told I could try again at 3 months. I got pg on the first try... My inlaws just got here and I have to cut this short, but I wanted to say we are here for you and will answer any questions you have. Hugs, Lin

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I haven't heard of not seeing a sac either. I was 5 1/2 wks and they could see the sac. I guess I would ask more questions, but with the numbers barely going up it does look like a bo.
If you need anything we are here.
Take care

Hi Jamie,
I hope you have some more answers as the days have progressed. When I had my first mc followed by a D&C (at 17 weeks) I was told to wait for a month before ttc...apparently there is some scar tiisue issues that can affect fertility but there is also the opposing aqrgument that after a D&C one is clear of all matter that inhibits infertility (sorry for TMI)
Good Luck Jenny me-38 dh-41 dd-4 2 mc 2003 - both 17 weeks IVF July 2004 BFN IVF April 2005 - BFP followed by BO 3 days ago waiting and hoping

Hi Jamie!
(((((((((((HUG)))))))))))) Stupid!? No way! I suppose confused can be miscontrued as stupid, but stupid you are not! When you say they didn't see a sac, do you mean the Yolk Sac? Because from what I understand, at 6 weeks a yolk sac & fetal pole is as much as they can hope to see. I imagine the black space IS your gestational sac. It's still somewhat early to assume based on an U/S alone that it's a B/O; however, I would have to agree that those hcg numbers don't sound too promising. (((((((((HUG))))))))))) My #'s were lower than average though and the dr didn't really give me too much reason to worry until my 7 & 8 week U/S. So much happens from week to week that there really could be a BIG difference from this week to next. I M/C in January and was advised to allow a minimum of 2 cycles before TTC and only allowed 1 before I was P/G again. Currently, I am waiting on M/C at 10w 5d. It's so hard to understand the feelings that these unborn babies cause us. All I can say is be hopeful yet prepared. I'm a new member and all I can say is this group of women has given me more support than I could ever ask for. Just ask away and you'll have some advise or at the least words of encouragement within a few minutes! Stephanie
