I am new here. I found this website while looking for information online. Here is my story:
I am 28 years old, I will be 29 next month. My husband and I have a 7 year old son, Brian. Brian is healthy, I had no problems getting pregnant with him or during the pregnancy. We decided to start trying for baby #2 about 2 years ago.
I had my LMP february 7,2005. I took a home pregnancy test on April 10th which showed positive. I had a drs appointment on the 14th, the dr said based on his tests and my lmp I was 9 weeks pregnant. He ordered some blood work and an ultrasound to confirm the dates.
I had my blood work done on the 20th and my ultrasound the 21st. When the ultrasound was being done the nurse said my uterus was consistent in size to 10 weeks but the sac was only showing 5w6d and it was empty. So she said it could be too early to tell and that she would do an internal ultrasound that even at 5 weeks that would show something. That showed nothing but an empty sac! I was told the hospital would rush my results directly to my dr and that I should contact him the next day.
I have repeatedly called my dr and have gotten no response back. I am so scared and unsure. I have been having some pain in my lower stomach and back but no bleeding. And my breat no longer hurt like they have been.
Any advice??
Thanks, Danielle

Dear Danielle,
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. The only advice I can give you is to wait and hear what your doctor says. When I had my ultrasound I was 7 1/2 weeks pregnant and they told me that the sac was empty. My doctor had me have a d & e right away because he wanted to do tests. If your doctor does say this is a blighted ovum, s/he will probably give you the choice of a d & c or to miscarry naturally. The good news is that it is very rare to have this happen again, so do not give up hope for having another baby.
Good luck to you. My thoughts are with you. Lauren

Danielle,
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Hopefully the Drs will be able to offer you a definate diagnosis soon. It's horrible they are leaving you hanging, especially over a weekend. By the time mine was diagnosed, 11w3d it was pretty clear and it was found because I had started cramping and bleeding.
Lauren's right that it isn't likely to be repeated and that this loss doesn't spell doom for the future you've hoped for. My blighted ovum was my first pg, and I now have two healthy happy children who are age 1 and 3.
Let us know what the Doctor says, and remember that we are always here for support, ranting, whatever you need.

Danielle,
I had the same exact situation occur with me. On a 11.5 week u/s it was found that my sac was only 7.5 weeks and empty. It nearly broke my heart, because I had had a blighted ovum before my son too. I knew what I was looking at unfortunately.
I would assume that the Dr.'s will begin drawing HCGs to see if they increase and then another u/s to be sure. Lots of prayers for you that you will be OK.
HUGS
Kris

Danielle
I am so sorry that you are going through this. I would assume that they will do another check on hcg and possible another u/s. I also am sorry that your dr's office is not calling you back. It is hard enough dealing with this with your dr's help but with no answers from him/her makes it much more so. Please let us know if you need anything. Keep us posted.
Take care Kallie
