I'm new here and looking for more information. I went to the ER yesterday for a pain in my left side. I should have been 6 weeks and 6 days. I temp and chart so I'm quite positive about my ovulation and conception dates. That said when they did an ultrasound I only measured 5 weeks 5 days from one angle and 5 weeks 3 days from another. There was no visible baby, just the sac. They were reassuring telling me my dates were probably off and the did an hcg draw which was normal. I will go back for another tomorow, but I'm not feeling hopeful. Is there any chance I was that far behind?
I had some very light spotting this morning but they said it could have been due to the poking and prodding yesterday and not to worry. I'm pain free today so that is good, but I am SO worried. My HCG was a nice strong 11959 and I go back tomorrow for another blood draw.

If your HCG levels are good for that time frame then it is possible that you O'd late. I get with charting and temping that probably doesn't seem very likely but anything is possible. I didn't temp and chart and I have notoriously long cycles so when they tried to date me from the LMP they were adding almost 1.5 weeks to my pregnancy. My first scan showed me at 5 weeks 5 days when they thought I should have been over 7 weeks. All we saw was an empty sac and I had to have blood drawn and a follow up U/S to see if the pregnancy was viable. My HCG levels came back good and during my next ultrasound they found baby and hb. Even though you were charting and temping, I find early ultrasounds to be confusing at best. They tend to cause more worry and fear then is really necessary. Since your levels are good and it's normal not to see anything at 5 weeks + I would wait and have another ultrasound when the pregnancy has had a bit of time to progress....even if you feel your dates are right -there could be many reasons for baby not showing up yet. Hang in there and I hope that things turn out well for you. If they don't, we will certainly be here to offer what advice and support that we can.

Oh yeah and I started having brown spotting the day after my vaginal ultrasound and it continued off and on for over the next 3 weeks! So it probably was the scan that irritated your cervix and caused the spotting!

Thank you That's what I'm really hoping for. I agree that it was confusing at best, and google says (yeah I should probably stay off google) that it is normal for ultrasounds that early to be off by a week. The paperwork said the ultrasound confirms an intrauterine pregnancy. I'm clinging to that word, but it was so scary that they didn't see a yolk sac or show me the fetal pole. Thank you for reassuring me! It seems unlikely that I could be that far off. I got my BFP at 12 dpo. It just doesn't quite add up to be off by 8 days. Maybe I was a little off and they were a little off. I'm going to try my best to relax and wait to see what my Dr says on tuesday. I think I trust her a little more then the ER doc.

I think babies tend to grow at the their own rate. I'm sure they have a general margin set but I don't think our babies know it. I imagine if things end up alright that eventually the dates will work themselves out. Please keep me posted on what you find out....one way or the other! Keeping my fingered crossed for you!

I just got good news. While it isn't quite doubling and it isn't an ultrasound that shows a baby, my betas went up from 11979 and 48 hours later 18968! I know you can't put all of your stock into beta results but it is a positive indicator right? I see my Doc on Wednesday and I'm hoping that she will have more news for me or at least when I can take a peek inside again. This board is a wonderful wealth of information! I am amazed there are people out there willing to hope and pray for someone they haven't ever met. That means the world to me. I will post again after my Dr's appt where hopefull I get more information!

Ok so my Doc thought the pain might be from IBS, and was happy with my betas until she decided to do a redraw to see. at 36 hours it went from nearly 19000 to just barely over 22200. They pushed up the ultrasound to next week tuesday from Feb 15th. She is now worried...She was hoping that by the 15th there would be good fetal development to see. She warned me that it wouldn't be unusual to see another empty sac on the 7th, but they were looking to see growth. Can I just say that waiting sucks!

Thanks! I'm sorry this is taking so long for an answer. The waiting is the hardest part. I'm thinking as positive as possible. I'm feeling no unusual symptoms that would make me feel that a M/C was coming, and all of my normal pregnancy symptoms are there so I'm gonna keep holding on tight. Thank you so much. I'll update after my ultrasound at 4 on tuesday!

I wish I hadn't waited for my answer. There was no baby today. They have said it is a 98% chance that I will miscarry in short order, but for now it is just more waiting. They dont' want to intervene because of the 2% chance they are wrong...but they are quite certain they aren't.
Devistated doesn't even begin to describe it...

I'm so so sorry it's been such a journey of highs and lows for you. If my 2 mc have taught me anything, it's that I go into every pg hoping for the best but being prepared for what could happen. Unfortunately loss takes away the innocence of pregnancy but it does not take away our chance of trying again. I know words won't comfort much right now but know we are all holding your hand so tightly. We'll be here every step of the way, come what may HUGS
