I found out last Tuesday that I have a BO. I should be 11 weeks 3 days pregnant, and at the time the sac was measuring 9weeks 4 days. I had been taking progesterone supplements during the pregnancy, and my doctor told me that I would likely miscarry fairly quickly upon stopping the supplements. I started spotting/cramping the next day. Today, however, I have been incredibly lethargic and having horrific cramps. I also feel like I am developing a fever, but I can't test because my thermometer is broken. My husband is going to pick one up on his way home from work. I know that if I have a fever, my doctor is going to want me to have a D&C, and I understand why. I'm just so nervous about the procedure. I have had 3 prior c-sections, and my cervix already thinks that it is supposed to dilate at 35 weeks. I'm scared to death about uterine scaring or cervical damage. I know that one of the risks of a D&C is preterm birth in the future, and I've already had 3 preterm births (30 weeks, 36 weeks and 35 weeks). I'm just freaking out over the fact that it is very likely that I'm going to have to have this surgery. Does anyone know of anything that I can ask to be done to lessen the chance of complications? We really want to have one more child. Thank you.

Pope,
I know you have fears of cervical scarring, etc and that's always a risk but everything I have read says that only like 1 or 2% of people have complications like scarring. I wish I knew what you could do to avoid a d&c but can tell you that I had 2 successful pregnancies after my d&c and carried both to full term.
Hang in there and I will be praying for you.

I am so sorry you had to find. I m/c naturally, with meds and had a D&C. I wouldn't say one is easier than the other and they all come with risks. It is a personal decision what you decide to do but if you really want to avoid a D&C you could discuss using meds to m/c with your dr.

Firstly I am sorry you are going through this
I have had both a natural mc and a D&C - I wasn't aware that the D&C is preterm labour - my OBGYN never discussed that as a risk - is this something your Dr said?
I did prefer the D&C over a natural mc but it's a very personal decision
We'll be here every step of the way - just come here and talk to us
Hugs

I m/c naturally per my choice, but meds were an option. The doctor prescribed them in case I decided not to wait for the miscarriage to come on it's own. He said the drugs are pretty intense but I have endometriosis that i've had surgery for twice and didn't want to increase my chances of scarring and I knew a woman who had 2 D&C's and in turn has an incompetant cervix; on the other hand there are lots of women who have had D&C's and went on to have healthy full term pregnancies. I would discuss natural and medical induced miscarriages in relation to the D&C with your OB and ask him/her to explain the pros, cons and risks associated with each and make the best decision for your family. You're in my thoughts and prayers as you make this decision
