Hi. I'm just looking for support from anyone who has a similar story. I just went on Wednesday for my first ultrasound at 9w4d and was told I have a blighted ovum. Had 2 transvaginal ultrasounds at 2 different facilities. Went for bloodwork yesterday. Dr called this morning and said my level is 9000. Wants me to give more blood next Wednesday. Anyone have any ideas what any of this means? Am 36 years old and this would've been my first baby. My husband and I are devastated. All comments are welcome. Thanks for listening.

Hi! I am so sorry you are going through this! I have had 2 blighted ovums, one ectopic, and one Chemical. We also have 7 healthy kids. When I had my b/o's we went through pretty much the same thing you described. It really is a cruel trick for your body to Play on you. After my b/o's were diagnosed, we were given the option to wait it out or get a D&C. The waited it out both times. The first one was pretty uneventful...started to miscarry around 8 weeks and passed the gestational sac after about a day of heavy bleeding, then the bleeding lightenend up to about like a normal period. With my second b/o, I didn't start bleeding until after 10 weeks. Then I almost didn't make it, because I hemmoraged really bad. I ended up with an emergency d&c, and that is what caused damage to my fillopian tube hence the next pregnancy was ectopic. I wish I could offer you some hope, but of you are correct on your dates, then they should definitely see a baby by 9 weeks. I will be praying you are able to recover quickly and get some closure soon! I'm so sorry for your loss! ~Hannah~

Here is a good discription on what a Blighted Ovum is. It is not your fault, and nothing you could have done to prevent it. It's simply our bodies way of dealing with a chromosome problem with the baby. Although very difficult to deal with, I was always thankful I didn't end up having a baby with chromosome problems that wouldn't survive past birth...that would have killed me. Let me know if you have any more questions! ((HUGS)) americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/blightedovum.html~Hannah~

Thank you for your kind words Hannah. Just can't wait for this to be over so we can move on and try again. Although I am devastated I know there is probably a good reason this is happening.

Hannah, I'm not sure if my questions are too personal, so if they are please excuse me and feel free to not answer. First, how did you know you we're hemmorhaging? Second, how long did you wait to try again and how long did it take you to get pregnant again? No one I know has gone through anything like this so I really don't have anyone who can talk to me from experience. Thanks again for responding and being so nice.

They are not too personal at all! I'm glad to answer any questions you might have! well I knew I was hemmoraging, because I was filling way more than a pad an hour, then I was walking and all of the sudden there was a huge gush and it looked like someone dropped a 5 gallon bucket of blood on the floor. It didn't stop there...thank God I was at the hospital seeing my sister and was rushed right to the ER. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have made it. They said I hemmoraged because part of the placenta broke loose, and the rest stayed attached, so it was like a bad open wound inside my uterus. I have never seen that much blood in my life. Thankfully I don't think it's very common for That to happen. If you start bleeding and it doesn't come in normal gushes (like a heavy period), but comes in a constant heavy flow, then you know it's time to go in. Feel free to email me if you want a quicker response. ..these boards used to be so active, but have been so slow lately. My email address is carlsangel18@hotmail.com. I hope you get answers soon! Keep me posted! ~Hannah~
