D and C is Dilation and Curettage, See topic here. A natural miscarriage involves the cervix passing necrotic tissue on it's own. It is possible, however, in a natural miscarriage all the tissue may not get out of the cervix and an infection may have the potential to develop. It is important to discuss your options with your OBGYN. A D&C may not be necessary if a pregnancy is lost early, as there is less tissue to be passed. From a medical point of view, if testing is to be done, a Doctor may prefer a D&C in order to remove the tissue to better obtain a reliable chromosome count. The choice between a natural miscarriage and a D&C is personal, what is best for one person may not be the best option for another. Sometimes there is an extended wait to miscarry, and the medical procedure will aid in providing closure. Other times a natural miscarriage may happen quickly. The recommended wait in order to "try again" to conceive is usually different depending on the path chosen. Generally the recommendation (this varies by doctor, however, so you should consult yours) for TTC after a natural miscarriage is trying again after one AF. It is usually three AFs before TTC again after a D&C. So, this is another area of consideration when deciding which route is right for you.
