D&C infection experiences?

Hi there, I was trying to surf the board but wasn't able to find an asnwer so I wonder if anyone with D&C have similar experience...

As some of you know, I had a D&C. This Friday will be the 2nd week. I will have my a f/u appt with gyno this Sat.

My D&C was 1.5 weeks ago on a Friday, was relatively painless, I woked up in hospital with minor cramps and was given pain medicine that made me more nauseus. I spotted for a few days after wards..extremely light, and had extremely insignificant cramp on following Wednesdy of D&C but since then seemed fine. The gyno gave me doxcycline for infection just in case which i took.

But then starting last Friday/Sat (which is one week since D&C), I feel my tummy, where uterus/bladder funny, I still feel very bloated and when I push in tummy uterus area, feel a funny "twisted" kind of feeling, sensitve, not really pain..but bloated kind of sensitve..I have also been extremely gassy and bloated and have had to use the restroom quite often.

I don't know if anyone felt the same after D&C? I have no bleeding,..but I don't know if it's a sign of infection? Although I took docycline already? I have dr. apt on sat. but it's hard to get evening appts so if i see doctor earliar, it's a work issue..not enough vacation days to take off...so I was wondering if anyone can share experience..that maybe what i'm feeling is "normal" after D&C?

So duh, literally 2 minutes after I posted , I use restroom and then on the tissue is a good amount of browish -reddish, perhaps "old" bleeding...no clots yet..

so duh...there goes the "no bleeding"

I guess I should call the doctor tomorrow, eh..

parissian - i had a D&C 2 weeks ago today. i had my follow up today.

i wanted to let you know that although i had no bleeding with any of my previous 3 D&Cs, this time i had over a week of bleeding & it was suspected due to several factors - - my age, hormones (also they had me on progesterone which i stopped taking the day before surgery) and the slow constant drop in my progesterone levels (which will tell the body to start bleeding / period, etc).
i still have brownish spotting.

my mother has had D&Cs in her recent past due to other issues (not pregnancy of course) and she sometimes has experienced 2 weeks of bleeding after a D&C which she seems to think can be normal.

i think the main concern with infection, and an indicator is bad smelling discharge (sorry, grose i know) &/or fever. i think if you have neither of those symptoms you are probably ok.

of course, if you have concerns, i would call and discuss with your doctors office.

I'm not sure about the "No" bleeding. I bleed like a normal period after my D&C. I never really had bad cramps of anything. I do know that you can have the "gas" & "Bloating" from the procedure. Anytime they invade your insides air is let in & it can cause this discomfort. I agree with Susan as far as infection, the smell & fever are good indications of that.

If you still feel uncomfortable it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor.

Just wanted to check in and see how you're feeling. Now that you've started bleeding, do you have any relief from the symptoms you described? I know with infection that you usually have a fever, but if you are not feeling any better I'd definitely call the doc and just ask them. Hope you're feeling better soon!

It's weird..no real pain..and yesterday night it was a tissue full of brownish reddish discharge.. but not red like blood..then some spotting today..I still feel bloated..but no fever...a little nudging in the rear abdomen... but not really pain.

I was sooooo busy at work today that I didn't get to call doctor...but it seems like light spotting...i can't tell if it's my uterus still need to empty everything...but why in the world take a whole week and a half...to start "emptying" sigh...

I do feel headachey and tired but not sure if its related..maybe not enough sleep...

My gosh i finally have my first period after the d&C , about 38 days...have it been a painful thing...I feel so bloated---to the bombom, as if someone stuck a needle into uterus from the bottom...more pain and bleeding then normal...I normally feel bloated but this is like exploding and the pain usually last only a day for me and this period the pain is onto 3rd day..I takind Advil but still..

did anyone experience more painful and bleeding period also from the D&C?

YES, I did experience more pain with first & even several AF after my D&C. They were also quite a bit heavier than normal too.
As long as you don't soak through more than one pad an hour or have (Sorry TMI) a bad odor everything should be ok.

BUT as always if you just don't feel right or feel you are in too much pain it never hurts to check with your doctor. You are the best judge of your body & what should be ok.

By the way - I had an inflamation after DC and I had absolutely no smelly or odd discharge. Just a little bit of spotting that you would expect after a DC.
So - yes, any odd feelings are best discussed with Dr.
Parrisian - I believe you had a follow up check by a doctor?

i had an infection after my 1st d&c it was extremly painful my belly swelled up so much it looked like i was 6 months pregnant and i was rushed to emergancy doc in agony at first they thought i had another baby that was ectopic after a few days on antibiotics i lost a large black blood clot and some small ones and was painfree hope that helps xxx
