Thank you everyone. I finished bleeding about 10 days after my miscarriage started. I'm finally finished! They took my blood to check my levels to make sure it's a complete miscarriage, so I should be hearing from them in about a week.

I'm thinking I should have some testing done to see if I have a mutated gene or auto-immune problem or something. Even though I've had another child in between the miscarriages, I just don't see how this can be "coincidence". Anyone have testing done and find a problem?

Shelly - I am so sorry to hear about your additional loss. We are here for you. I did have the karotype testing done and they discovered I have two mutations for MTHFR. It is common to have one mutation but having two and the particular one I had starting with a 'C' factors into having babies with trisomy's.

Now that being said, I have a perfectly typical and beautiful son. So, if these mutations are a factor how do you explain his perfection??? I tell myself some days that I had two miracles, but I didn't realize how significant the first miracle was! If you get testing and want more info, I'm glad to share what I know and understand, but I am NOT a doctor/geneticist.

BTW: our fertility specialist said NOTHING about the mutations being a key factor in having the prior m/c's or a future trisomy baby. She only put me on extra folate and checked my homocysteine levels b/c those are related to MTHFR.

Hugs
Nicole

I don't know what MTHFR is, other than is could be another way of writing mother f$&*er! hee hee

Anyway, one of my clients has had 5 miscarriages due to this, yet 2 healthy babies between. She was told she will not likely be able to hold a pregnancy to term.

She suggested I get checked for that. Is it just a blood test? Or is it evasive?

I just researched MTHFR and I also got a list of tons of things to look for through a blood test. Only problem is, we lost our health insurance because we couldn't pay. There is no way I can pay privately for these tests. Anyone know what they would run?

Shelly, I don't know what the tests could run, but I just thought I would add that my immature mind always sees that when I see MTHFR, too. I know that it's an abnomality that's nothing to laugh about, but it always throws me for a second when I read it. On that note, everyone who went through elementary school knows that BO stands for "body odor."

Anyway, just thought I would try to lighten the mood a bit with that.

I'm from Osage City (population 3000...doubt you've heard of it) and I went to college at Emporia State University for a couple years before moving to california...you may have heard of Emporia.

I've heard of Osage City, I just don't know where it is. I was taking part in a teacher ed program that went through Emporia State, but was based in El Dorado. I switched to Wichita State later on. Emporia is the halfway point along the turnpike between Wichita and KC, so I've stopped there many times to eat and go to the bathroom. Kansas is quiet, but there sure isn't much to do. I went to Los Angeles when I was seven and all I remember is Disneyland and traffic. LOL. I want to see it as an adult someday.

So how are you feeling anyway? Are you doing okay?
